Retooling and Economic Recovery Council members to provide affordable PPE to local businesses, organizations

The Retooling and Economic Recovery Council (RERC) will soon launch a new online portal called ‘Strength in Numbers’ to provide local municipalities, businesses and community organizations with access to affordable personal protective equipment (PPE).

The RERC is a collaboration between Bruce Power’s Ontario-based suppliers, which is intended to operate for the duration of the global pandemic, and will focus on the continued retooling of the supply chain to meet front-line needs to fight COVID-19, as well as lay out a plan to contribute to Ontario’s economic recovery in the short, medium and long term.

“This effort will assist our business and non-profit communities in securing the protective equipment they need to safely reopen their doors, while protecting the health and safety of our communities,” said James Scongack, Bruce Power’s Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Operational Services, who co-chairs RERC alongside Richard Horrobin, Bruce Power’s Vice President and Managing Director, Supply Chain.

“Our collective commitment to safety on the job and in the community is the clearest path to an eventual end to this pandemic and to economic recovery in our region, province and across the country,” Horrobin added.

Supply partners, Levitt-Safety Canada and Canadian Bearings Ltd., have joined forces with Bruce Power to provide greater access to supplies that will play a key role in protecting workers, customers and the general public as the region continues to safely reopen businesses and public spaces.

The online portal builds on Bruce Power’s efforts to support the health and safety of front-line workers, non-profit organizations and businesses and will allow local groups to purchase PPE items at competitive rates, directly from these supplier partners. Prior to the opening of the portal, Levitt and Canadian Bearings request buyers to submit a pre-order so they can properly source the required materials. If you’re interested in ordering PPE, please submit your pre-order at www.brucepower.com/strength-in-numbers by July 17.

When the online purchasing portal formally opens the week of July 27, interested parties will be able to easily place their order directly with the suppliers and pay by credit card, Horrobin added.

Heidi Levitt, Levitt-Safety Canada’s Co-CEO, said the company is proud to join forces with Bruce Power to provide affordable access to PPE to members of the community.

“Levitt prides itself on connecting Canadians with the proper equipment to ensure the safety of their employees and patrons,” Levitt said. “As we continue to slowly progress towards a more open economy, we understand how important affordable access to personal protective equipment is, and we look forward to working with members of the community.”

Troy Wessner, the Regional Operations Manager at Canadian Bearings Ltd., said the company is committed to providing PPE at competitive rates to lower the burden being placed on businesses and organizations during these uncertain times.

“We understand how difficult it has been for municipalities, companies and community groups to operate under the restrictions we’ve experienced since COVID-19 changed how we operate,” Wessner said. “We’re happy to play a role in getting these groups and businesses back on track in the safest manner possible.”

To pre-order PPE, visit www.brucepower.com/strength-in-numbers by July 17, and watch for the announcement of the official opening of the Strength in Numbers purchasing portal the week of July 27.
